Comparing Editorials on Democracy in Egypt.

I chose to compare and contrast the editorial differences between an article that appeared in Random Lengths issue, on February 11th 2011, page 5, entitled “Ten anticipated impacts of the fall of the modern-day Pharaoh” and an article from Jewish Exponent entitled “Out of Egypt”

The Random Lengths column, written by Hussam Ayloush of the council of Islamic Relations, presents a hopeful and progressive point of view and summarizes ten positive points that would likely come out of the fall of Mubarak’s regime.

Strong language is used throughout the RL column to express intense dislike of Hussam Mubarak and Middle Eastern dictators as well.

The editorial of the Jewish Exponent presents an opinion extremely sympathetic of the national security of Israel while putting the interests of democracy in Egypt as a second priority. The article in the JE predicts a far more pessimistic view of the future of Egypt and uses rhetorical devices to express their sentiment.
